Mesquite Police Association donates $10,000 to Mesquite Veterans Memorial

The campaign to build a new memorial to pay tribute to military veterans and their families received its largest one-time donation to date. At the July 2 City Council meeting, the Mesquite Police Association announced a $10,000 donation to the Mesquite Veterans Memorial campaign.

Bruce Sales, Mesquite Police Officer and President of the Mesquite Police Association, said, “We are here tonight to proudly make a donation to the Mesquite Veterans Memorial. This memorial is going to serve such an awesome purpose in our community. And, our organization immediately knew we wanted to be involved with it. Not only do we love our veterans within our city, but many of our co-workers have served in various branches of the military. On behalf of the Mesquite Police Association, I am honored to present this donation of $10,000 dollars to the Mesquite Veterans Memorial.” The Mesquite Police Association is comprised of the majority of sworn police officers and non-sworn personnel of the Mesquite Police Department.

Randy Lawson, representing the Heroes of Mesquite who started the effort more than 10 years ago to build a new veterans memorial, was complimentary of the city’s efforts with new community-wide campaign. He said, “I want to thank the city council for getting behind this project and purchasing the land for the memorial.” Earlier this year, the City Council purchased property near City Lake Park as part of a masterplan to connect the park to historic downtown Mesquite. The new veterans memorial is set to be a part of that masterplan.
